Jackson County Traffic Court Records
A Jackson County citation can belong to the Kansas District Court or a city municipal court. The printed court name controls the route. State district traffic matters are indexed through Kansas CaseSearch and held by the Clerk of the District Court. City ordinance and municipal traffic matters remain with the city court clerk. Kansas has no separate Jackson County justice court tier.
The Kansas Central Payment Center adds a violation and payment search for listed case categories. It is not the full register of action. A traffic docket can show the charge, events, settings, plea, disposition, and payment status, while the payment page focuses on locating an amount and submitting funds.
Jackson County Citation Search Fields
The Central Payment search offers several ways to find a listed violation. Use the least sensitive field that produces the correct match, and enter private data only in the live official interface. The screen may require JavaScript, so a limited browser capture does not prove that a field or option is unavailable.
| Search Group | Observed Fields |
|---|---|
| Citation or case number | Number plus date of birth in MM/DD/YYYY form |
| Driver license | License number and issuing state |
| Vehicle | Plate number and state |
| Name | First name, last name, and date of birth |
| Business | Business name |
The official search capture shows the public field groups described above.
The interface also exposes a Social Security number route. Do not place that number in notes, examples, messages, or public records requests.
Looking Up a Jackson County Ticket
Start with the citation itself. The issuing court, citation number, alleged offense, and appearance information determine which office can answer a question. If the cited court is Jackson County District Court, try Kansas CaseSearch and the district clerk. If it names Holton or another municipality, contact that city court. A payment search is useful only when the matter participates in that service.
- Read the issuing court and citation number.
- Try the Central Payment search or Kansas CaseSearch as appropriate.
- Without the ticket, use the official name and birth-date fields.
- Call or visit the issuing clerk if the matter has not posted.
- Record the response deadline and confirm any hearing date.
The Jackson County District Court line is (785) 364-2191. A municipal case should go to the city court rather than that district line.
Jackson County Citation Anatomy
K.S.A. 8-2106 identifies the core Kansas traffic citation fields. They include notice to appear, the cited person's name and address, vehicle information, alleged offense, time and place, and the officer's signature. These fields help distinguish two similar search results without publishing a real person's citation.
- Appearance notice
- The court response date stated on the citation.
- Offense
- The alleged traffic violation, not a final finding.
- Issuing court
- The custodian that keeps the traffic case record.
- Officer signature
- A statutory citation field, not the case disposition.
The statute permits a written plea, waiver, and payment route for a traffic infraction in specified circumstances. Ask the issuing court what options apply rather than treating a portal button as legal advice.
Finding Your Jackson County Traffic Date
Compare the appearance information on the citation with the newest docket event. A later reset or continuance can replace an earlier setting while leaving the old entry visible. Jackson County has no researched countywide public traffic calendar, so use the statewide seven-day hearings calendar, the district docket, or the municipal clerk and confirm before traveling.
| Citation Number | The identifier printed by the issuing agency; no single Jackson format was verified. |
|---|---|
| Court | District court or the named city municipal court. |
| Date & Time | The current appearance or hearing setting, checked against later events. |
| Location | The courthouse or municipal court location stated by the court. |
| Status | Pending, disposed, paid, or another court-entered status. |
A setting is not a case result. When two sources disagree, the issuing clerk should confirm the live schedule.
Jackson County Traffic Case Numbers
Official fiscal-year reports show why a traffic search needs a court context. The FY2023 report records 1,139 Jackson filings: 10 felony, 316 infraction, and 813 misdemeanor. The classification row lists 1,134 motor-vehicle violations, no ordinance violations, five other violations, and no parking violations. These are aggregate state-court categories, not a list of city citations.
Do not use an annual total to infer the result of one ticket. A current docket entry and the issuing clerk are the case-level sources.
The later disposition series supplies a separate trend. Kansas reported 1,046 Jackson County traffic dispositions for FY2024 and 1,320 for FY2025. The 2025 categories were 120 deferred, adjudication, or diversion outcomes; 214 dismissals; 841 guilty pleas; 131 other outcomes; one jury trial; and 13 court trials. These figures describe work completed in each report year. They do not show the live balance on a citation, and the rise between reports should not be described as a rise in new filings. Filing counts and disposition counts measure different court events.
Pay or Contest a Jackson County Ticket
Payment and contest are different responses with legal effects. A payment route can involve a plea or waiver and a recorded disposition. Contesting generally requires a timely response to the issuing court and a later hearing. The citation and court instructions govern the deadline. The Central Payment Center cannot decide whether a person should choose either route.
| Paying | Contesting |
|---|---|
| Follow the issuing court's authorized payment and plea instructions. | Contact the issuing court for its not-guilty plea and setting procedure. |
| Use the citation deadline and confirm posting. | Respond by the court's stated deadline. |
| Central Payment, mail, or in-person options may apply. | Written or in-person steps depend on the court. |
Missed date or payment: K.S.A. 8-2110 provides notice, possible motor-vehicle agency notification, fees, and reinstatement procedures. Contact the court because payment alone may not clear every status.
Jackson County Central Payment Fees
The Central Payment home page lists Visa, Mastercard, Discover, debit card, and eCheck routes. Card or debit payment carries a five-percent convenience fee with a one-dollar minimum. The listed eCheck convenience fee is one dollar. Those are service fees, not the fine and not a district-clerk copy charge.
The service also publishes a mail route to Kansas Courts Central Payment Center, PO Box 750200, Topeka, KS 66675-0200. Include the party name, case number, and county. Its phone is 785-260-6105.
Jackson County Court and Driver Records
A traffic court record and a Kansas driver record are two distinct files. The issuing court clerk keeps the case record. The Kansas motor-vehicle agency keeps the driver record. A court lookup is used to understand the citation, court date, plea, and disposition. It should not be treated as a substitute for the separate state file.
| Court Traffic Record | Driver Record | |
|---|---|---|
| Custodian | District or municipal court clerk | Kansas motor-vehicle agency |
| Shows | Citation, events, plea, disposition, and court balance | State-maintained driving history entries |
| Route | CaseSearch, payment search, or issuing clerk | The state's authorized driver-record process |
A missing payment result does not establish what either official file contains. Verify each record with its own custodian.
Jackson County DUI Categories Differ
The FY2024 Kansas report separates 17 criminal DUI filings from 84 traffic DUI filings in Jackson County. The 101 total spans two report categories. The disposition row reports 120 dispositions, including 31 deferred, 11 dismissed, 64 guilty pleas, 12 other outcomes, no jury trials, and two court trials. Filing and disposition counts do not have to match within one fiscal year because cases cross reporting periods.
The split is a classification lesson, not a way to predict a case. Read the docket category and court name instead of assuming every DUI entry follows the same route.
Jackson County Municipal Traffic Routes
K.S.A. 12-4104 gives municipal courts jurisdiction over city ordinance violations and specified related matters. Holton publishes a police-court calendar. Hoyt identifies a municipal-judge role, and Mayetta's code contains Municipal Court and Traffic chapters. No case-level portal was located for Hoyt, Mayetta, Whiting, or Circleville, so those searches begin with the city clerk.
A municipal appeal can move to district court under K.S.A. 22-3609. Do not assume the city citation number becomes the district appeal number. Ask both clerks for the correct identifier and filing route.
Jackson County Traffic Copies and Fees
No Jackson-specific traffic record or certified-copy price was located in the reviewed official sources. Request a quote from the issuing clerk before sending money. State traffic files go to the Clerk of the District Court at 400 New York Avenue, third floor, Holton, KS 66436. Municipal files go to the named city court.
| Item | Published Fee | Next Step |
|---|---|---|
| Plain court copy | Not located | Ask the issuing clerk for pages and cost. |
| Certified court copy | Not located | Confirm certification and payment method. |
| Central Payment card service | 5%, $1 minimum | Applies to online payment, not copies. |
| Central Payment eCheck | $1 | Applies to the payment service only. |
For the traffic citation statute itself, the Kansas Legislature source shows the governing fields and written response provisions.
The statute is the authoritative procedure source; the clerk supplies the current local fee and accepted request format.
